Sharjah is one of the UAE's most active commercial and industrial emirates, home to thousands of mainland businesses, manufacturing units, trading companies, and a robust network of free zones. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022, every taxable person operating in Sharjah is required to register for Corporate Tax with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) and obtain a Corporate Tax Registration Number (CT TRN).
In 2026, corporate tax registration is a live compliance obligation with active penalties for failure to register. At ADS Auditors, we manage the complete registration process for Sharjah businesses, covering mainland entities, free zone companies, and foreign branches, so your business stays compliant from day one.
What Is Corporate Tax Registration?
Corporate Tax registration is the formal process of enrolling your business on the FTA's EmaraTax portal to receive a unique Corporate Tax Registration Number. This CT TRN is the identifier the FTA uses for all tax compliance interactions, including annual return filings, tax payments, and correspondence.
Registration is compulsory for all taxable persons in Sharjah regardless of profitability. A business operating at a loss still has a legal obligation to register and file a corporate tax return. Filing a return even with losses matters because it preserves the right to carry those losses forward and offset them against future taxable income.
Who Needs to Register for Corporate Tax in Sharjah?
Juridical Persons (Legal Entities):
The following entities operating in Sharjah must register:
- LLCs and other commercial entities licensed by the Sharjah Department of Economic Development (SDED)
- Companies incorporated in Sharjah free zones including SAIF Zone (Sharjah Airport International Free Zone), Sharjah Media City (Shams), Hamriyah Free Zone (HFZA), Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone (SPCFZ), and Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP)
- Public and Private Joint Stock Companies
- Foreign entities with a permanent establishment or a taxable nexus in Sharjah
Natural Persons (Individuals):
An individual conducting business activities in Sharjah must register for Corporate Tax when their total annual business revenue crosses AED 1,000,000 within a calendar year. Salary income, personal investment returns, and income from real estate investments outside a business structure are excluded from this threshold.
Note: Branches of UAE domestic companies are extensions of their parent entity and are not required to register separately.
Sharjah Free Zone Companies and Corporate Tax
Sharjah hosts some of the UAE's most diverse free zones, spanning media, publishing, aviation, research, and industrial activity. All entities incorporated within Sharjah's free zones are subject to the UAE Corporate Tax Law and must complete FTA registration.
Qualifying Free Zone Persons (QFZPs) who satisfy the substance and income conditions may benefit from a 0% rate on qualifying income. However, this preferential treatment is only available to businesses that are already registered with the FTA and maintain FTA-compliant financial records. A business that has not registered cannot claim any free zone tax benefit.
